We won't stand around moaning about men and bashing cardboard cut-outs of them. But we will be discussing the best ways to get into the industry, and how to get to the top of it. We want to talk about burning issues not bras, with a glass of wine or four and a sausage roll along the way.
SEPTEMBER EVENT | CREATE THE FUTURE, JUST DON'T HEAR ABOUT IT
Our September event was intimate and yet so powerful people left with their notebooks full. During the event we discussed that:
* Innovation can't be taught. It has to be harvested. There are many ways to do it. A good starting point is to admit you know nothing.
* Today the ability to think holistically and cross-over many disciplines is more important than to have one specialisation.
* The keys to innovation are: be fearless, be curious, be a child, put together two things that do not match.
* There's always a way, specially with technology, to achieve what you want. Don't just go with most popular packages such as Flash. Investigate other options such as Processing.
Our speakers were:
Rachel Hunt- Senior 'colours and numbers' at Agency Republic
Rach says: Be prepared to work harder to achieve innovation. As you dive into untapped territories, measuring the work can be difficult. Long client relationships will make it easy for clients to accept the risk that comes with innovation. Watch the video to find out a few ways to harvest innovation.
Adriana Paice - Artist at Greyworld
Adriana says: Innovation is all about being playful, about being kids again. Watch the video for some innovative work from Greyworld.
Niqui Merret – freelance Creative Technologist and first woman in the UK to own an iPhone and hack into it
Niqui says: Technologies such as Processing, Silversun and Papervision are tools you should be looking into for your next projects if you want to achieve innovation. Watch the video to see what the 'cool kids' are up to.
Denise Wilton – founder if B3ta and Creative Director for Moo cards
Denise says: A great space to tap into for innovation is social spaces like Facebook. But you have to obey certain rules. One of them is be polite, the other is to ask people what they want first and yet another is to have a good idea first - technology is nothing without a cool idea.
Special thanks to PROPEL for supporting us. Not to mention the great venue, drinks and specially the food. We even had dessert this time. We loved it.
Also thanks to Ziva, Tim and Jay at Agency Republic for helping with the videos.
